The third conditional is used to talk about past situations and how they could have been different depending on whether the condition was met or not.
structure:
IF + PAST PERFECT + WOULD HAVE + PAST PARTICIPLE

- If I wasn't so busy, I would have gone to the movies.
- If my brother hadn't been lied to before, he would have believed me.
- If you had worked harder, you would have passed your exam.
- If he left class early he wouldn't be late home.
- If I had been invited to the party on Saturday I would have gone.
- If I were followed in accordion classes I would have already learned.
