 GRAMMAR: Was / Were going to and would.

It is a form used to tell a plan or forecast for the future that you had in the past. And it is done with was/were going to + infinitive.
This is the past tense of am/is/are going to, which talks about the future plans we have now.

Examples.

  • He was going to the dance, but he stayed working until night.
  • My family was going on a trip to San Andres, the trip was not made because my younger sister got sick.
  • Maria believed she would live in Medellin because of her husband's job.
  • Andres thought about living in Santa Marta for university.
  • Ana thought she would go to her grade, but that day she was sick.
  • I was going to call you but my phone was out of battery.
  • We saw that it was going to rain and we didn't go out to the park.
